About us

Two tutors. One method. No surprises on exam day.

Gradient Maths was founded to fill in the gaps in how GCSE Maths is taught. In school, all the concepts are covered and past papers get done — but many topics have edge cases and question types students never see until the exam. We cover every type of question that has come up for each topic, including past papers, so there are fewer surprises. We keep the team small on purpose: quality over quantity. Every tutor is DBS-checked and follows the same structured method: assess, plan, teach, track.

Senior tutor · 25+ years' experience

Madeeha Saad

Madeeha has taught maths for over 25 years, including at well-known schools such as Ashbourne College and Haberdashers' Aske's School for Boys. She brings decades of classroom experience to KS3, GCSE and A-level students — and a method built on mastering one step before taking the next.

Adam Saad

Adam founded Gradient Maths and tutors KS2 through GCSE. He achieved a grade 9 in GCSE Maths and is now in his second year at university, with two years of tutoring experience and an up-to-date, first-hand understanding of how current papers are structured and marked. His lessons are methodical: one concept secured before the next (£20/hr KS2 & KS3, £25/hr GCSE).

Growing carefully

New tutors coming soon

We're expanding the team slowly and deliberately — quality over quantity. Every new tutor is interviewed, observed in a trial lesson, and trained in the Gradient step-by-step method before taking on students.

Our approach

Assess. Plan. Teach. Track.

One step at a time

We explain concepts in a step-by-step process and make sure a student truly understands the first step before moving to the next. Throwing lots of information at a student at once becomes overwhelming — small, secure steps compound into big results.

Catered to the student's needs

Sessions are planned around each student's goals. For exam topics we work through every type of question that has come up — including past papers — so the exam can't produce a version your child hasn't already seen and solved.

Progress you can see

After every session, your tutor logs what was covered, how it went, and what's next. Parents and students see the same dashboard. No surprises at parents' evening.

Quality over quantity

We deliberately keep the team and the student list small. Fewer students means more preparation per session, more attention per student, and a tutor who genuinely knows where your child is.

Questions parents actually ask

Start with the free 30-minute trial lesson — use the contact form or the "Free trial lesson" button. We'll reply within one working day to arrange it on Google Meet. After that, you can book hourly lessons or a package directly from the pricing page.

Groups have 2–4 students at the same level and run weekly on Google Meet. On the Group tuition page you can see every open group, its level, schedule and how many places are filled. If a group already has at least 2 students it's confirmed, and you can join and pay straight away. If it doesn't, you reserve your place for free — we only ever take payment once a second student makes it a genuine group, because a group of one is just one-to-one tuition.

Tell your tutor which topic you'd like to cover at least 4 hours before the lesson, so they can prepare the full range of that topic's questions. If you'd rather hand over a checklist or syllabus to work through week by week, that's absolutely fine too — your tutor will plan the order and pace.

Sessions cancelled with more than 24 hours' notice are rescheduled free of charge. Cancellations within 24 hours are charged at 50%. We're flexible around illness and emergencies — just talk to us.

Packages that haven't started are fully refundable, and once a package has begun, unused sessions are refunded at the package's per-session rate. We don't refund lessons that have already taken place — which is exactly why every new student starts with a free 30-minute trial lesson, so you can be sure before you pay anything.

All lessons run online via Google Meet — a laptop or tablet with a camera and a quiet spot is all your child needs. We'll send a Meet link with every booking confirmation.

Edexcel and AQA for GCSE Maths, at Foundation and Higher tier, plus A-level Maths. Our exam-prep materials are organised by board so practice always matches the real paper.

It comes down to budget and experience. Madeeha (£65–70/hr) brings over 25 years of classroom teaching, including at Ashbourne College and Haberdashers' Aske's. Adam (from £20/hr) is a grade-9 GCSE student now at university, with two years of tutoring experience — a great budget-friendly option, especially for KS2–GCSE. Both follow the same step-by-step method, and the free trial lesson includes an honest recommendation.

Yes — every tutor holds an Enhanced DBS check. Parents are welcome to sit in on any session.

When you sign up, you get a private dashboard. After every session your tutor logs what was covered, homework set, and a confidence score out of 10. You'll see upcoming bookings, session history and a progress chart — the same view your tutor uses.

Group tuition

Join a group — pay only once it's confirmed

Groups run with 2–4 students at the same level, weekly on Google Meet. You never pay for a group that isn't confirmed: if a group already has 2+ students, you can join and pay right away. If it doesn't yet, reserve your spot for free and we'll only take payment once a second student makes it a real group — because one student isn't group tuition, it's one-to-one.

Don't see a group that fits?

Tell us the level, day and time that would work via the contact form and we'll start a list. As soon as two students want the same slot, the group is confirmed and we invite everyone to pay and join.

Become a tutor

Tutor with Gradient Maths

We keep the team small on purpose — quality over quantity. If you know your maths inside out, can explain a concept one step at a time, and care whether a student actually understands, we'd like to hear from you.

We only use your details to assess your application.

What we look for

  • Deep subject knowledge — including edge cases and exam-style questions, not just the concepts
  • Step-by-step explainers who check understanding before moving on
  • Reliability — same time, every week, prepared
  • An Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to get one

How applying works

Apply with the form → a short intro call → a trial lesson observed by a senior tutor → join the team. Pay is a set hourly wage based on your experience and the level you tutor, agreed before you start.
